1.12. Possible malfunctions

Below instructions on elimination of malfunctions and breakages which most often happen in road conditions are provided. More detailed data about an order of search of the reasons of malfunctions are given in the corresponding heads.

If the engine is not started and the starter does not rotate

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. If the car is equipped with automatic transmission, be convinced that the lever of the selector is in the situation "P" or "N".
2. Be convinced of purity of poles of the storage battery and reliability of fastening of plugs.
3. Include headlights and try to start the engine. If at start of the engine of a headlight burn very dimly, the most probable cause of refusal of start of the engine is the discharged battery. Start the engine from the battery of other car (see subsection 1.12.1).

If the engine is not started at normally working starter

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Check, whether there is a fuel in a tank.
2. Check availability of moisture on details and devices of electric equipment of the engine.
3. Switch off ignition and wipe places of a congestion of moisture a dry rag. Put water-repellent aerosol means (WD-40 or equivalent) on sockets of fuel system and ignition system (And, In, With, D) (see fig. Locations of sockets of fuel system and ignition system). Especially attentively check the low-voltage socket of the coil of ignition and high-voltage wires.
4. Check reliability of connection of high-voltage wires on spark plugs (And), having pressed on a wire tip.
5. Check reliability of connection of high-voltage wires on a cover of the distributor of ignition (In), reliability of fastening of the socket on the distributor.
6. Check reliability of connection of high-voltage wires on the ignition coil (C).
7. Check reliability of connection of electric sockets (D) (at the switched-off ignition). If there is a suspicion on moisture hit, process water-repellent aerosol means of WD-40.
